Project 8: Apps Development in Port of Rotterdam
The research project ‘Apps Development for the Port and its Hinterland’ investigates the basic functionality needed of an open environment in which apps can be developed that support the working of the international supply chain. The study tries to demonstrate the feasibility of such an environment based on a concrete proof-of-concept implementation. The basic long term goal is to develop a platform that enables fast and flexible development of applications on smart devices (‘apps’) supporting information and data disclosure and enrichment to fulfill existing and future information needs of end users. The apps provide users insight in static data with respect to the ports’ infrastructure, locations of trans-shipment and storage as well as real-time data around the infrastructure’s usage including waiting times, transport movements, container locations, etc. The apps to be developed are fixed in line with the needs of the port of Rotterdam. The final deliverables inlcude a few working apps and a roadmap for further development.
