Hans de Haan did obtained his M.Sc. degree in theoretical physics at the Instituut Lorentz of Leiden University, under supervision of prof. Wim van Saarloos. After this he went on to do a Ph.D. with prof. Jan Rotmans at Drift (Dutch Research Institute for Transitions) at the Erasmus University. The subject and title of his thesis is "Towards Transition Theory", it presents an integrating theory for societal transitions with several computational and mathematical elaborations.
Currently he works as a post doctoral researcher on the theme of Flexible Infrastructures. His research in this context aims to bring together the knowledge in this theme and to come to an overarching conceptual framework. Apart from this, his research interests are conceptual analysis and theory formation, complex societal systems and computational and mathematical approaches thereto.
