Eckart Ehlers’ PhD thesis focuses on the comparative analysis of the unbundling processes in the electricity and gas industries in Germany, Great Britain, and the Netherlands”. He analyses the impact of economic regulation, the concept underlying European energy market liberalization, on economic human rights. The thesis takes a particular focus on ownership unbundling and independent system operation and their compatibility with the legal orders of three EU Member States and the EU itself, and includes the analysis of the legitimacy of competition law enforced divestiture.
