8th IEEE ICNSC conference well visited and a success!

18 Apr 2011

More than 100 researchers from all over the world participated in the 8th IEEE ICNSC conference held in Delft, the Netherlands. The main theme of the conference, with Zofia Lukszo from the Intelligent Infrastructures subprogramme as Program Chair, was “Next Generation Infrastructures”. The crucial role of the infrastructure networks for energy and water supply, transportation of people and goods, and provision of telecommunication and information services, culminating into a myriad of value added services, makes them increasingly specialized and difficult to design, operate and manage. This proved to be an excellent focal point for the application of techniques from the fields of networks, sensor systems and control engineering. The multi-disciplinary character of the conference was clearly visible in the opening and keynote lectures which addressed various application domains:
Prof. Ilic opened the conference with a lecture on Smart Grids (pdf), Prof. Polak discussed transport systems (pdf), Prof. French addressed the use of medical sensors (pdf) and  Prof. Slootweg (pdf) and Prof. Bompard (pdf) presented smart grid and power system applications. Furthermore, domain specific sessions, for example a special track on water management, were organised in addition to sessions in which a particular paradigm, such as multi-agent systems, was discussed in a smaller group of participants.

The conference proceedings are available on cd-rom (ISBN: 978-1-4244-9572-6) and will soon be published in the IEEE Xplore digital library. Please see the conference website (sinfras.com/conferences/icnsc2011/) for more details and further updates.
