Exploring and exhibiting a variety of complex adaptive systems approaches to infrastructure, Next Generation Infrastructures and the UK Infrastructure Transitions Research Consortium are bringing together leading scientists, engineers and economists from their programmes to discuss the state-of-the-art in modelling change and adaptation in infrastructure systems. In a context of ageing infrastructure components, increased likelihood of climate related hazards, demographic change and the need to mitigate environmental impacts; this is a crucial time for the infrastructure and network industries globally. These factors are combined with the increasing priority for infrastructure assets to foster greater long-term economic productivity. This landmark workshop will enable the infrastructure community to share and advance its thinking on modelling infrastructure transitions in an uncertain future, and will be a key event in the quest for developing a new generation of decision support tools for the planning, delivery and operation of infrastructure.
The workshop is an eminent opportunity for the exchange of knowledge between Next Generation Infrastructures and UK ITRC researchers and for jointly exploring the limits of current modelling and simulation approaches, methods and tools. Besides a fruitful exchange of best modelling practices, we aim to identify opportunities for sharing or combining models and, last but not least, to identify the knowledge and tooling gaps that we face in the completion of our research missions, as a basis for a new research agenda.
